Q: What is Northwestern University’s federal Tax ID number?

Q: What is the deadline for my annual gift to count in this year’s total?
A: Northwestern University's fiscal year begins on September 1 and ends on August 31. Gifts made during that period will count toward this fiscal year.

Q: How do I make a recurring gift?
A: Underneath the Gift Amount and Gift Designation boxes, check the box labeled “I would like to make this a recurring gift,” which authorizes Northwestern to charge your credit card in installments. A menu will appear where you can choose your payment options for amount, frequency, and duration. As a tip, please be sure to select 1-5 years, 4-20 quarters, or 12-60 months.

Q: My designation is not in the list of options for giving. How can I give to where I would like to give?
A: Enter your gift amount, then select View additional gift designations, and then scroll to the bottom of the window that pops up and select “Other…”. Click Continue to return to the main form and then type your designation into the text box marked “If ‘Other’ designation, please specify.”

Q: I would like to give to more than one area, and neither is in the list of options for giving. How can I designate both gifts?
A: Enter your gift amount, then select View additional gift designations, and then scroll to the bottom of the window that pops up and select “Other…”. Click Continue to return to the main form and then type your designation into the text box marked “If ‘Other’ designation, please specify.” For more than one allocation, please indicate the gift amount for each allocation and separate the allocations with a comma. For example, type “$25 to Men’s Swimming, $25 to NUBAA Promise Scholarship.”

Q: Can I make a gift in honor or memory of someone else online?
A: Yes. In the middle of the form, there is a section for Your Honorary/Memorial Gift Options. Click the purple box next to the text to show the options, and then enter the name of the person in whose honor or memory you are making your gift. In the box labeled Additional gift information you may enter contact information (email, mailing address) if you would like us to notify the individual or a family member about your gift. 

Q: How do I make a pledge payment?

A: At the top of the page, click Make Your Pledge Payment Online to be taken to the pledge payment form. If you need to change any details about your pledge or payment, please enter them in the Comments box.

Q: I got an error message. Did my gift go through?
A: Yes, your gift likely did go through. Please send us an email at giving@northwestern.edu or call us at 800-222-5603. We will work with our Gift Services team to be sure this is credited correctly to your account and then send you a confirmation email.

Q: I got an error message after I made my gift. I tried it again and now I noticed I was charged twice. Can you help me?
A: Yes. Please send us an email at giving@northwestern.edu or call us at 800-222-5603. We will work with our Gift Services team to be sure that this is corrected and your card is credited, and then send you a confirmation email.  

Q: I work for a matching gift company. How do I indicate that when I make my gift?
A: In the middle of the form, there is a section labeled Will Your Employer Match This Gift? Enter your employer’s name in the box or click Find your company here to search the matching gift database.  Select your company from the list that appears. Instructions for your company will be shown, which you can print. Complete your gift transaction and then consult your company’s HR department to learn the proper process. Most companies will need proof of the gift before they submit the forms to NU, but once they do submit the forms, our Gift Services team will complete the process and credit you with the match.

Q: I never received a receipt for my gift. How do I get a new receipt?
A: Your email receipt would have been sent immediately after you made your gift. Please check all of your email accounts – the receipt may have gone to the email address we have on file for you which might be different from the one you provided during your transaction. If you do need a new receipt, please email nureceipts@northwestern.edu and our Gift Services team will send you a new receipt.
